This week has been very cleaning-related. Spring-cleaning, you know. And almost no desire to knit. I even managed to participate in Tuesdays knitting meeting without taking my needles out. I finished my bag handles , though, but still haven't put them together.
But there is something to write about. Bobbi, the hostess of our SP10 group, asked to write about our first knitting experiences. Good question, but, ups, I have no memories.
My first memory is from school, when we knitted scarf. I made it k1p1. And when I had almost finished it, the teacher told me, I've made it all wrong. All purl stitches were twisted. Which means every other stitch was twisted. Considering that, I'm sure I was taught by my mothers mother. She has always knit twisted purl stitches. Fortunately our teacher was wise enough and let me finish this scarf my way. And after that I learned the right way, too. But I didn't like knitting at school. I think, when we made socks, I only made the cuffs. Heels were too difficult, so my grandmother finished them. Did we knit anything else, at all? I'm not sure. Last time, I was home, my mother showed me one white shawl, made in school by me or my sister. I don't remember knitting it, but maybe I did? And it didn't help, that we only had this harsh Estonian wool, back then. It wasn't pleasant to knit. Or wear.
But after finishing the school, I started knitting sweaters. About one in two years. And then , about 2 years ago, I discovered the internet patterns and...here I am.
And to add the picture to this post, I looked out handmade items, I have, made by my grannies. I'm not sure, which one made the socks and mittens, but those pillows are definitely made by my fathers mother. (I think she only changed the colors and never the pattern, but I might be wrong.)

Hmm... it's quite common not to like knitting while at school. Sewingmachine is much more interesting ;)

I think I'll stay anonymus.. at this time .

:)

A lot of our group learned to knit in school. It's amazing that so many of you came back to it later on!
Thanks for playing.
